Dr. Oetker Tarte au Chocolat is a German baking mix for a rich chocolate cake inspired by the traditional French-style Tarte au Chocolat. The 470 g / 16.6 oz mix combines chocolate, cocoa powder and roasted, crushed cocoa nibs for a pronounced chocolate character with a slightly crunchy cocoa element.

Easy Chocolate Cake Preparation

The mix keeps preparation straightforward. First, add the baking mix to a mixing bowl and combine it with soft butter and eggs. Mix briefly on low speed and then on high speed for about 2 minutes until you have a smooth batter.

Next, transfer the batter to a springform pan and smooth the surface. Preheat your oven to about 200°C / 392°F for conventional top-and-bottom heat or about 180°C / 356°F for a fan oven.

Bake for a Moist Chocolate Cake

Bake the cake for about 23–28 minutes on the lower rack position. Toward the end of the baking time, check the center with a pointed knife. If no batter sticks to the knife, the cake is ready.

The baking time affects the final texture. Therefore, Dr. Oetker recommends removing the cake after the first successful doneness test if you want a particularly moist result.

After baking, carefully loosen the cake from the edge of the pan and let it cool in the pan on a wire rack. Once cooled, turn the cake out and remove the baking paper. For serving, you can finish the cake with a light dusting of powdered sugar.
