Hirschhornsalz Staghorn Salt For Baking
Hirschhornsalz is a raising agent for Christmas baking. Please dissolve in liquid according to the recipe and mix with the dough. Especially suitable for high gingerbread, pointed cake and the popular Amerikaner (sand rolls or ammonia biscuits). Staghorn salt is often added to dough instead of yeast. During baking, it then decomposes into gases that loosen the dough. In other words: Hirschhornsalz is a raising agent and consists mainly of ammonium bicarbonate NH4HCO3. German “Ammoniumhydrogencarbonat” = ammonium bicarbonate.
